Senior Skiers - Safety & Skills Workshop

This safety & Skills Workshop is designed for skiers 55+ who are comfortable skiing to the bottom of the mountain. Offered: February 8th. Enhance safety, confidence, and enjoyment by understanding aging effects, learning adaptive techniques, and pacing smartly. A valid lift ticket/pass and equipment are not included, however, they are required to participate in the workshop.

Designed for skiers 55+ who are comfortable skiing to the bottom of the mountain.

Welcome & Orientation:

Offered: February 8th

  • Introductions: Participants, coaches, guest speaker
  • Overview: Schedule, goals, safety guidelines
  • Icebreaker: "Your favorite ski memory"
  • Purpose: Ski smart, ski strong, ski longer

Understanding the Aging Athlete:

  • Led by: PSIA-Certified Instructor (and retired Oral Surgeon)
  • Objective: Explore how aging affects skiing ability, reaction, and safety
  • Balance, strength, and recovery time changes
  • Joint health, flexibility, fall prevention awareness
  • Common medical considerations for senior skiers
  • Hydration, nutrition, and pacing importance
  • Proper warm up and cool down techniques

On Snow Session: Safety First Skiing Skills

  • Led by: PSIA-Certified Instructor
  • Adjust stance and posture for stability
  • Manage speed through turn shape and pacing
  • Use terrain for rest and control
  • Safe stopping and merging
  • Recognize fatigue cues early

Midday Break & Social Lunch

  • Emphasis on hydration, good nutrition, and informal Q&A

Program participants are also eligible for a lunch discount at The Scramble.
